What age group does Athletics cater for?
We cater to all ages ABOVE 5 years old.
What do the athletes do?
Athletes participate in a series of track and field events such as running (60m hurdles, 60m, 70m, 80m, 100m, 200m hurdles, 200m, 300m hurdles, 400m, 400m Hurdles, 800m, 1500m), jumping (long, triple, high) and throwing (shot put, discus, javelin, turbo Jav, vortex) all depending on their age.
How long is the season?
Kwinana Athletics season is a year round sport. The track and field event program is run from October to March. A winter competition consisting of cross-country and road walking is conducted from May to August.
When and where do the athletes participate?
During the summer season, Athletes compete in track and field events at Wellard Oval. The length of the program and events for any given competition day varies. There are also opportunities to compete at other clubs when a special invite is given by another club.
How does the family get involved?
Kwinana Athletics Centre is very committed to family involvement. Parents should be involved in coaching/assisting Athletes at a our club, assisting as a competition official and just about anything else you can think of.
What competitions can Athletes compete in?
Besides the regular centre competition, Kwinana Athletics Centre hold our annual Championship days (ususaly held over 2 days (Friday night and Saturday morning) where all athletes compete for medals in their selected events.
Each year a club nominates to host the Coastal Cup where our atheletes can compete against other clubs.
Athletics West hold events during the year: WA Country Championships, WA all Schools challenge, WA State Relay Championships, WA Junior Challenge, WA State Senior Championships and Little Athletics Challenge.
